Value of Dolls
There are many factors that contribute to the value of dolls. Some of the most common ones are the condition of the face and head of doll, any damage to the doll, originality, condition, rarity, demand, and the number of dolls produced.
Generally speaking, the head and the face are the most critical part of a doll. Dolls from older mold typical have flat face and less dimensional appearance than the ones from newer mold. Also older dolls are more likely hand-painted.
Well maintained dolls are more welcomed by doll collectors. Of course the older a doll is, the more chance it has minor defects. Minor defects normally won’t reduce the value too much but extensive crazing or big cracking will affect the value.
Dolls under original conditions and with original boxes, tags and accessories are desirable among doll collectors. A mint antique doll with original clothing and box could be worth a few times more than the book value.
Rarity is also a big factor which is very common to all collectibles. In general, how rare a doll is has great impact on the value.
Demand also plays a major role in doll market just like all other market. It is all about supply and demand. Without demand, even very rare dolls won’t be valued very high.
